Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Alpine Lake Systems LLC ("Alpine Lake Systems," "we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with the Trailtrace iPhone application (the "App") and the website at trailtrace.alpinelake.systems (the "Site"). Trailtrace is designed to be private by default. In plain terms: we do not collect, receive, sell, or store your location or activity data.

1. The short version

• Your routes, distances, and activity history are created and stored on your iPhone.
• If you enable iCloud sync, that history is stored in your own private iCloud account so it follows you across your devices. We have no access to it.
• Trailtrace has no account, no login, no advertising, and no third-party analytics or tracking.
• The App does not transmit your location to Alpine Lake Systems. There is nothing about your movements on our servers.

2. Location information

The core purpose of the App is to record a run, walk, or bike ride. To do this, the App uses your device's GPS/location services only while you are actively recording an activity (including in the background during that activity, so your route stays accurate when your screen is off). You control this through the standard iOS location permission prompt and can change or revoke it at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.

Location data is processed on your device to compute your route, distance, pace, and speed, and is saved to your device's local storage (and, if you enable it, your own iCloud). This location data is never sent to Alpine Lake Systems.

3. iCloud sync (optional)

If you turn on iCloud sync, your activity history is stored in the private database of your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. This keeps your history in sync across the Apple devices signed into your Apple Account. Apple's handling of your iCloud data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. Alpine Lake Systems cannot see, access, or retrieve the contents of your private iCloud database.

4. Maps

The App displays maps using the Google Maps SDK for iOS. When maps are shown, Google may receive technical information necessary to serve map tiles (such as your device's IP address and the map area being viewed), as described in the Google Privacy Policy and Google Maps Platform Terms. Alpine Lake Systems does not receive this information and does not use it to identify you.

5. The website

The Site's "My Runs" page can display your activity history in your browser. It does so by connecting directly from your browser to your own iCloud (via Apple's CloudKit web services) after you sign in with your Apple Account. Your data travels between your browser and Apple — it does not pass through, and is not stored on, our servers. The Site uses no advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

Like virtually all websites, our hosting infrastructure automatically records basic technical request logs (such as IP address, timestamp, and requested URL) for a limited time, solely to operate the Site securely and prevent abuse. These logs are not used to build profiles of you and are not linked to your activity data.

6. Children

Trailtrace is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the App does not collect personal information at all, this is inherent in its design.

7. Your rights (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA and similar)

Data-protection laws such as the EU/UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act grant rights to access, correct, delete, and port personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Because Alpine Lake Systems does not collect or hold your personal information or location data, we have nothing on file to disclose, sell, correct, or delete. You remain in full control of your own data: you can delete any activity within the App, and you can manage or delete the App's iCloud data through your Apple Account settings. We do not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined under applicable law.

8. Data security

Your activity data is protected by your device's security and, if you use iCloud sync, by Apple's iCloud security. Because we do not hold your data, it is not exposed to any breach of our systems. No method of electronic storage or transmission is ever 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of data held by third parties such as Apple or Google.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, communicated within the App or on the Site. Your continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
